State Event Finals

Sunday the 30th October saw the first of our state events finalised. The weather at Sale
BC was excellent and spectators were treated to some great games.

Novice Singles
In the morning women’s semi final Susan Chittenden (Sale)  defeated Karen Telling (Stratford). Susan would go onto to play Jody Corrigan (Sale) who had previously defeated Vicki Hall (Maffra)

Jody was never headed in the final and will now represent Gippsland at Mulgrave CC on the 27th February 2023

Adam Easton (Paynesville) has been unstoppable during this event and accounted for Mathew Telling (Stratford) in the morning semi, but Phil Manning  (Bruthen) had also been doing well and after defeating Rowan Holloway in the semi booked himself a finals spot.
Adam got away to a great start and led 19-8 after they had played 17 ends. Phil clawed his way back to 17-20 before Adam was finally able to finish the game at 21-17. Great bowls from both competitors. Adam will join Jody at Mulgrave on the 27th February for the State final.

60+ Pairs
2019-20 State Champions Karen Chenney and Robyn Kellow (Orbost) were in the final after a walkover in their semi final. Margaret Brandhoj and Lina Rosati (Lakes Entrance) played Shirley Jarvis and Ros Brown (Sale) in the other semi and it required an extra end to separate them with Margaret & Lina prevailing.
In the final Karen and Robyn had an answer for everything the Lakes duo threw at them and will be heading to Bendigo for the state final in Bendigo on the 15th – 17th March 2023.

The men’s pairs semis saw  Michael Dee and Wayne Marsden (Stratford) account for Joe Scicluna ad Shane Higgins (West Sale) and Andrew Bell and Shane Dove (Sale) defeated Ray Barry and Brian Peacock (Lindenow) 13-11 in a close game after the Lindenow boys had fought their way back into the match from 0-10 down after 4 ends.

Bell and Dove were too good in the final with great bowls from both teams conversions were the difference. Andrew and Shane will also represent Gippsland at Bendigo in March.
